Spicy Orange Pecans


Spicy Orange Pecans

4 cups (1 pound)  pecans (cannot be roasted, salted. or toasted)

2 Tablespoons fresh orange juice

White of one large egg

Zest of 2 oranges(about 2 tablespoons)

 ½ cup sugar

 1 ½ tsp. kosher salt

 1 ½ tsps. Chili powder

½ tsp. cayenne pepper

Pinch ground pepper

Heat oven to 225 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine pecans, juice, and egg white in medium bowl and toss until nuts are well coated. In small bowl, combine orange zest, sugar, salt, chili powder, cayenne and black pepper. Add zest mixture to the pecan mixture, tossing well to coat. Spread pecans on prepared baking sheet. Bake, stirring every 15 minutes, until pecans appear dry… about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do not let turn dark brown. Cool completely. Store any leftovers in an air tight container. (There are rarely leftovers!)

 Yield: 4 cups. A great hostess gift!
